Blink

2025 -2026

Blink is a project about the impending discordance between technological advancement and human evolution. It captures the period that major AI generative tools became accessible to the mass public and subsequent leaps in technology and business models occurred.

Imageries of foods from around the world cover the walls. At first glance, they may look hyper-real, or cliché. We instinctively react. Stare at them long enough, and one would realize they are prompts into models that obtain information from large databases humans have accumulated since the printing press was invented 600 years ago. These are merely the initial iterations for many enhancements to follow. In the wink of a few years, would we still be able to discern between what is real and what is AI-generated? Or perhaps even reject the reality we have around us, as not being enticing enough?

The series of works are a collaboration with the artists’ two children, starting when they were ten and twelve years old. They belong to Gen Alpha, the first generation to grow up entirely in the 21st century. Their commentaries are unvarnished and scattered around the works, thought processes which flow into the canvases. It is not to ascertain whether their opinions are correct. But they belong to a digital native generation that will have to live and evolve with this asymmetric balance of technology and humanity in their lifetime.
