ZHAISHENGJI® was founded in Shanghai in 2020 by artist and curator Pang Hailong. It is an inclusive and open cultural exchange platform composed of a series of independent art projects. The term "Zhaisheng" originates from Zhang Jiuling's Shang Feng Shi of the Tang Dynasty, meaning "to entrust life." Zhaishengji takes space as its method and art as its entry point, exploring the vitality of art within the fabric of everyday life. It focuses on the deep connections between people, life, and nature, expressing a profound understanding of humanity, life, and human nature, allowing art to gain a moving vitality through genuine emotional resonance.
Since 2020, Zhaishengji has journeyed through five years. Throughout this period, it has consistently centered on the theme of "home," exploring the deep connotations of "house" as a physical space, an emotional carrier, and a cultural symbol—from slices of individual memories to resonances of collective experiences, and from interpretations of singular spaces to dialogues among diverse cultures—through the practice of various exhibition projects. In mid-autumn 2025, the fifth edition of Zhaishengji will be held in Tiong Bahru, one of Singapore’s oldest residential neighborhoods. With "cross-cultural exchange" at its core, the exhibition will extend beyond the main venue to four site-specific locations across Singapore’s urban space, marking a profound and warm milestone in this five-year exploration.
Five Years of Zhaishengji, from the individual to the collective, from the local to the cross-cultural, from space to emotion, has always used exhibitions as a medium to transform the seemingly private concept of "home" into a bridge connecting diverse life experiences. It touches upon the most essential humanistic core of "home"—regardless of cultural background or changes in living space, home remains the spiritual origin that carries family bonds and shelters the self. Moving forward, Zhaishengji will continue to advance, listening to more stories of "home" across a wider range of contexts. These five years of accumulation have already laid the warmest foundation for it: home is never a static structure, but a flowing narrative of life.
